Crafty Connor’s card design is a winner

CHRISTMAS has come early for a Chester schoolboy who is celebrating after winning a competition to design a festive card for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Earlier this year, the hospice launched a design competition for local primary schools. Participating schools were asked to draw a Christmas scene of their choice and return them to the hospice by the end of April for the chance to win a fantastic prize.

The winning design goes on to be printed as one of the Hospice Christmas cards 2008 and sold in aid of the worthy cause.

Hundreds of entries were received from primary schools including Blacon and Guilden Sutton.

Following the closing date, the fundraising team had the tough job of choosing one design as the winner. Connor Beesley, a pupil of Guilden Sutton Primary School, was announced the winner.

Before Connor was told the news, staff at the hospice were keen to get a proof of the Christmas card and mount it so he could be surprised with this as soon as he found out.

Lauren Evans, community fundraiser at the hospice, took Pawz the mascot along to the school ready to hand over the proof to Connor.

Lauren said: “We were so pleased with the response we got from the design competition. It is great to work closely with local schools and young people.”

Guilden Sutton Primary School has fundraised for the hospice during the summer term and will be presenting the charity with a cheque shortly.
