King’s are hockey champs

GIRL hockey players at Chester’s King’s School are on an end of season high.

The school was the only one in Cheshire to be represented in all three county level outdoor finals.

The school’s U16 hockey squad, some of the first girls through the doors at King’s when it went fully co-educational five years ago, have had a storming season, winning the Cheshire national schools tournament last November when they saw off four teams, including Christleton and The Queen’s School.

They then went through to represent the county in the north semi-final, which they won and played in the northern finals, gaining third position.

Now, they have triumphed in the county tournament held at the Cheshire County Sports Club beating Queen’s, Weaverham and Lymm High in the final, which had entries from more than 20 schools from all over Cheshire.

King’s U19 girls also won through to the county final and came third in the competition, held at Wilmslow High, against eight other schools while the U14 squad were also third against more than 20 other teams.

“King’s was the only school in Cheshire to be represented in all three schoolgirls’ finals,” said Claire Sumner from the PE department.

“And that was at the end of an already very successful season for girls hockey at The King's School.”

The U19 girls tennis players had an early season success when they beat The Queen’s School in the U19 Chester and District tennis final.
