Grid works in Chester leave motorists facing disruption

CHESTER motorists face disruption as the next phase of the city’s National Grid Works starts this week and last for eight weeks.

This means that Upper Northgate Street and Parkgate Road is closed between the A5268 Fountains Roundabout and the traffic signal junction at Walpole Street and all vehicles travelling north from the city centre need to follow a diversion route.

There is also be a northbound lane closure between the traffic lights at Walpole Street and the A5480 Countess Way

Drivers coming into the city centre will be unaffected but should be aware of the one-way system that will be in operation between Countess Way and the traffic signals at Walpole Street.

The works will take approximately eight weeks to complete, and to help traffic leaving the city, the signed diversion route will be directing traffic along Lower Watergate Street, New Crane Street and Deva Link, but motorists are encouraged to use the park and ride or public transport where ever possible.

Variable Message Signs have been placed on main routes into the city to encourage through traffic to use the outer ring road and the A55.
