New Year Honours: Community stalwart Olive Minors made an MBE

COMMUNITY stalwart Olive Minors is another of those to be recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Mrs Minors, of Mollington, is chairwoman of Chester Guide Dogs for the Blind and vice president of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and has also played key roles in Chester Flower Club and the Mollington Backford Support Group.

Mrs Minors, who has been made an MBE, said the work she had been able to do would not have been possible without the support from fellow volunteers and colleagues.

She said: “I want to thank all the teams I have worked with, including the support team at the hospice and the Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the other flower arrangers at Chester Cathedral.

“I am very honoured, I really feel to be given this award is lovely.”

Malcolm Whitehouse, formerly deputy chief information officer and group applications director for the Department of Work and Pensions, has also been honoured.

Mr Whitehouse, of Tattenhall, is one of 20 DWP employees to receive an honour and is made a CBE.
