THE Queen’s School in Chester has appointed a new chairman of governors.
Dr Christine Laine, who has recently retired from a distinguished career as a medical radiologist, has succeeded Elizabeth Lunn at the girls independent school in City Walls Road.
Mrs Lunn served two terms (six years) as chairman of governors of the school.
Dr Laine was consultant radiologist at the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham and began her role as governor at the school in September.
She said: “The Queen’s School is a highly successful and vibrant school and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be the chair of governors. I am looking forward to working alongside the headmistress, Mrs Clark, and her talented staff, who provide an innovative and supportive environment, where the girls can flourish and develop their talents and individuality to the full.
“Our school is in the heart of Chester and we embrace enthusiastically the unique blend of tradition, community and opportunity that the city offers.”
The board of governors meets at least four times a year to receive and approve reports and recommendations on a range of topics including the education character and aims of the school, strategic planning and financial matters. Governors also have links with school departments and regularly meet staff and parents through various committees.
