Handbridge shops undergo facelift

A ROW of historic Handbridge shops is receiving a makeover.

A total of 17 buildings, from Martin’s Newsagents to footwear retailer Alec Edwards, have been covered in scaffolding while Christleton-based contractors Maxiflow carry out important renovation work.

Sam Diamond, the firm’s marketing director, said: “The project is being carried out in conjunction with Enterprise PLC on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council and is pretty important.

“There is a lot of work being done on the timber work, particularly as some of it is defective and might be rotting as they are historic buildings.”

The two-phase project, which has cost a five-figure sum, is now in its latter stages.
