Jet-setting hairdresser buys Chester salon
A DRINK in a Chester bar led to a major investment in a city centre business.
Hairdresser Ryan Ephraim, 37, took over Hair Cafe in Watergate Street after returning from a stint working in Australia.
He bought the business after going out for a drink with a friend, who at the time owned the salon.
“He was about to emigrate to Madeira,” Ryan explained.
“He suggested I buy the business, but I had no idea he was serious until he called me back the next day to talk about it. I was looking to invest in my own business anyway, so I thought, ‘Why not?’”
Ryan, a former Toni and Guy stylist and L’Oreal fashion show specialist from Hawarden, took over the salon in April and now employs eight staff including one part-time and two apprentices.
His girlfriend, Karen Eyres, who owns a beauty salon in Shotton, helped with the interior design.
Ryan explained: “It needed a sense of space, but we didn’t change it too much because we didn’t want to alienate our customers.”
