A BRIGHT future is predicted for Frodsham Youth Club, which has battled on through hard times and is now enjoying a membership boost.
A funding crisis earlier this year and fears that Fluin Lane building – where the club has met for 42 years – had become ‘under-utilised’ caused headaches for Frodsham Youth Association’s management committee.
But now youth services provider, Connexions, has funded a new youth leader, Tamsin Cowen, to steer the Senior Youth Club, which currently has about 40 members aged 14-18.
And the club’s new junior section for seven to 10-year-olds, launched six months ago by volunteer mums Nicola Mikoleizik and Tracey Johnson, has been such a success that its 120 members are keen to carry on – so another new intermediate section for 10-to 13-year-olds will open in November, led by Nicola and a team of fresh volunteers.
Management committee chairman town councillor Rita Shearn said: “We’ve had some difficult times lately, but it’s fantastic the way it’s picked up. The new junior section has really taken off and brought new life to the club.”
The senior club meets every Monday and Tuesday between 6.30pm and 10pm. From November the junior section will run from 5.30-7.30pm, and the intermediate section will meet from 7.30-9.30pm.
