Chester Lions Club fired up for annual fireworks extravaganza

CHESTER Lions Club will once again be hoping this year’s fireworks spectacular at the Racecourse will go off with a bang.

The popular annual event, to be held on Saturday, November 5, begins at 5.30pm and will feature a range of live entertainment.

There will be music from the Liverpool-based Junior Parker band, a fire eater, clowns, a fun fair and face painters.

A special fireworks display for toddlers begins at 6.45pm, while the main display gets under way at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced £6 for adults, £5 concessions, £3 for accompanied children aged six to 16 and free for children aged five and under.

For those choosing to watch the displays from the City Walls, charity collection buckets will be available for them to place donations in.

Proceeds from the event traditionally raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

Past beneficiaries have included the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, the Countess of Chester Hospital, Miles for Smiles and Save the Family.

The Lions club has hosted the Guy Fawkes pyrotechnic extravaganza in Chester for about 45 years.

It began life as a community service project at Chester Zoo and moved to the Roodee 14 years ago.
