A CHESTER cabbie has won a grand jackpot after unknowingly picking up an insurance firm’s ‘mystery tipper’.
Taxi driver Matthew Flaherty picked up Swinton Taxi’s mystery guest during a recent shift, meaning he drove away with a £1,000 tip.
The competition encourages taxi drivers to place a sticker requested from www.mysterytipper.co.uk in the rear window of their cab.
The mystery tipper then chooses a cab displaying the sticker at random and rewards the driver with a £1,000 tip.
Matthew had been displaying the sticker in his cab window for three years trying to attract the mystery tipper.
He said: “I didn’t think it would ever happen to me, but I’m now so grateful and overjoyed that it finally did!
“I’m planning to spend the money on a new bathroom suite and of course buy something nice for my wife and son.”
Alex Cooke, of Swinton Taxi insurance, said: “Taxi drivers work hard serving their community at all times of the day and night. We’re proud to be able to say thanks to our local cabbies by rewarding them through our mystery tipper scheme.”
