MEDALS stolen from a war hero have not been returned despite an appeal in The Chronicle.
But Linda Williams, daughter of James Davies, of Upton, has been touched at the support shown by the community since we featured her father’s plight.
Mr Davies had just celebrated his 90th birthday when intruders stole his six Second World War medals along with a TV and even a bottle of whisky he had been given as a gift.
Radio listener Steve Dobson heard Chester Chronicle executive editor Michael Green talking about the story on Dee 106.3FM and offered his spare TV and Sky box.
A Chester whisky retailer donated two bottles of mature whisky.
Linda had hoped the thief might hand back the medals if his conscience was pricked or that a trader might come across them being touted for sale.
She said her father, who lost his second wife Jean just 20 months ago, had been ‘knocked back’ by the incident.
But she added: “I would like to thank everybody who has rung in and made these kind offers. We do appreciate it.
"It's not just property these criminals take, it's people's lives.”
Anyone with information about the burglary, which took place on the evening of Monday, October 3, is asked to call DC Nigel Moore on 01244 616147 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
