Tarporley football teams secure short-term use of village sports hall

TWO football teams have been allowed short-term use of a village sports hall on a redundant school site.

Last month the Chronicle reported that Cheshire West and Chester Council was preparing to cut off the electricity supply to all buildings at the old Brook Farm School in Tarporley.

This meant both Tarporley Vics under 11s team, which was only formed this year, and the club’s veterans side would have nowhere to play.

U11s coach Andrew Moreton pleaded with CWaC, who are exploring the option of selling the site for housing, not to ‘mothball’ the vital indoor facility.

He argued the electricity supply could be isolated solely to the sports hall, which they pay £10 a week to use.

In email correspondence with Mr Moreton, council estates manager Tony Lozinski confirmed this could be achieved and has allowed the teams to continue using the facility.

He said: “I’ve now had our electrician’s report and it does seem feasible to continue to have an electricity supply to the sports barn, therefore I am prepared to allow both teams continued use of the building on similar terms as existing subject to the signing of a licence agreement.

“You will appreciate that such an agreement will only be in the short term whilst the council considers the future of the site.”

The council is considering placing concrete blocks half way down the access road to prevent unauthorised entrance to the site.
