Police urge residents to lock windows after two ground floor burglaries in Chester

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two burglaries in Chester.

In the early hours of Thursday (August 18) burglars broke into homes in Chester through ground floor windows which had been left unlocked.

At around 2.50am burglars entered Garth Drive, off Liverpool Road, before breaking into a second house in nearby Abbotts Park almost three hours later

While the criminals were leaving the second address they were disturbed by a man delivering papers, making them drop the stolen goods on the driveway, before running from the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crimes and urging homeowners to check that their homes are secure before going to sleep or leaving for work.

DC Henderson said: “Opportunist criminals will take advantage of residents who leave windows open and unlocked, or patios and conservatories insecure.

“I cannot stress enough the importance of securing your home and valuables by taking simple crime prevention steps. Don’t let criminals exploit the opportunity of an open door or window to enter your home and steal your belongings.”

Crime scene investigators examined both scenes and further enquiries are being conducted by Chester CID.

Anyone with any information regarding the crimes or who have seen anyone acting suspiciously should call Chester CID on 0845 458 0000 quoting incident 81 of 18th July.
