Queen’s School pupils raise funds for Equipe charity

QUEEN’S School pupils have helped make sure that children in Africa have safe drinking water.

The girls at the City Walls Road school raised £500 for the charity Equipe, which will use the money to help bore a well at a school in Uganda, where access to fresh, clean water is desperately needed.

Fundraising activities ranged from running a marathon to collecting change in Pringles tubes.

The girls presented a cheque to Nick Pengally, a trustee from the Wrexham-based charity.

The school already has close links with Equipe, as they sponsor the education of two girls in Uganda and Kenya.

Head of biology Claire Dillamore visited one of the projects in Uganda last year and was able to report back that the money raised will make a substantial difference to the lives of children affected.

She said: “The children I have met have been full of hope for their future and the building of a well in the school grounds will enable the valuable work of the school to continue and flourish.”

Equipe works to find a way out of poverty for all people.
