THE church in which they wed may have become a pram shop, but a Chester couple’s marriage is still going strong after 60 years.
Nancy and Oliver Young, of Chapel Lane, Boughton, married at the Congregational Church on Christleton Road in 1951 after falling for each other at a dance in Stafford.
They marked their diamond wedding anniversary with a family celebration and received a congratulatory telegram from the Queen.
Retired shop assistant Mrs Young said the pair had never argued: “We just sort of get on. We don’t fall out over anything. We’re really very lucky.”
The couple, who attend Caldy Valley Church, have always lived in Chester and bought their current house more than 50 years ago.
They have two daughters, Jill and Valerie, and four grandchildren.
