Man killed following collision with train on Chester-Wrexham line

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed following a collision with a train on a level crossing near Chester on Tuesday (July 26)..

British Transport Police are investigating the death of a 49-year-old man, believed to be from Saltney, on Tuesday afternoon at a rural crossing in Balderton.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Shortly before 5.20pm we were notified of a collision between a train and a motorbike at a level crossing.

"Officers from BTP and Cheshire Police attended and discovered that, as a result of the collision, the motorcyclist had received fatal injuries. "We are now working with Cheshire Police to determine the identity of the motorbike rider and the circumstances surrounding the collision."

BTP said it was unclear if the rider had attempted to weave around the barriers at the crossing.

The train line between Wrexham General and Chester was partially blocked for two hours following the crash. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40.
