STAFF from Chester’s Grosvenor Museum are asking people to come forward with personal objects which are precious to them.
These will become part of a temporary exhibition titled Treasured Possessions which opens in November.
Museum staff would also like to hear about the story behind the object and why it is special.
Councillor Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, said: “The exhibition will showcase a number of objects and artworks from the museum collection, that are not normally on display, and which demonstrate how Cestrians have cherished their possessions throughout the city’s history.
“These include a 6,000 year old axe head used for ceremonial purposes, a Civil War Royalist badge showing allegiance to Charles I and a dainty pair of Georgian silk slippers.
“Each object tells us a story about the person it belonged to and the times in which they lived.”
Councillor Samantha Dixon said: “Learning staff from the museum are working with children from Upton Heath Primary School to explore the precious object theme. Photos of the children and their ‘treasure’ will be displayed in the exhibition.
“This will be a marvellous chance to understand why particular objects are important to people from Chester.”
If you are interested in being involved in the exhibition please contact Learning Officer Fran Bray on frances.bray@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk or ring 01244 402019.
