A SPONSORED head shave organised by a brave young woman battling cancer has raised thousands of pounds for the hospital where she is being treated.
Alison Davies, 17, from Tattenhall, is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy at Clatterbridge having had a huge tumour removed from her ovary.
To thank the hospital for its ‘fantastic care’, the former Bishop Heber High School pupil held a fundraising evening at her family’s local The Letters Inn where regulars – including her dad Steve and brother Simon – had their heads shaved.
Alison said: “The night went really well and I’d like to thank everyone for their support. We had a really good time.
“We raised about £4,000 and my dad, brother and the landlord all had their heads shaved. One man raised £600 in sponsors to have his done.”
Jade Barrett, community fundraising manager at Clatterbridge, added: “It was lovely meeting so many of Alison’s friends and family, their kindness and generosity is absolutely fantastic.”
A similar fundraising event was recently organised by Alison’s boyfriend Craig Edge, 20, and his family at The Wheatsheaf Inn in Nomansheath.
Craig, his dad Andy and several friends all had their heads, eyebrows and moustaches shaved off in support of Alison, with £1,700 being raised to fund a holiday for her when she completes her chemotherapy.
Last week, The Chronicle reported how Alison had gone to the doctors over six weeks ago suffering with stomach pains and was told by her GP that she could be pregnant.
However, following an ultrasound scan it turned out that Alison had a tumour wrapped around her right ovary.
The West Cheshire College student was diagnosed as having a metastatic germ cell tumour, which was 20cm by 16cm.
The tumour was successfully removed and much to Alison’s relief the doctors confirmed that she would still be able to have children in the future.
