New project gives help to elderly

A NEW project has been launched to help vulnerable adults in rural areas.

Village Agents is a pilot scheme being run by Cheshire Community Action that will provide services for vulnerable adults and older people.

The project will help them remain independent in their own homes and provide them with a link into a network of support and services they may not usually be aware of.

Two agents working in Malpas and Tattenhall will spend time each week visiting individuals through drop in activities or at home.

Derek Bowker is the agent for Malpas and Carol Weaver will cover Tattenhall.

They have already been helping older people with queries about mobility, home care, benefits, social activities, safety and security systems.

Agent coordinator Amanda Scarratt hopes that by spending time with individuals the agents will build up trust to assess the support that they need discreetly, and give them information on local activities and services that may be of interest to them.

She said: “Village Agents provide a valuable service to older people and vulnerable adults by offering on-going support and advice and encouraging social interaction.”

For more information about the scheme contact Amanda on 01606 350042.
