Security stepped up to deter theives at Cheshire’s Oulton Park superbike meeting

SECURITY is being stepped up for this weekend’s British Superbike event at Oulton Park after thieves targeted motorsport fans at the last meeting.

Back in May, cash, wallets and iPods were stolen as 15 tents were targeted at the circuit campsite.

As a result police officers will be out in force during this weekend’s championship race meeting, offering advice to fans.

Insp Phil Hodgson said: “Every year we provide a visible and effective police presence at the Superbikes Championship, working together with the organisers to ensure the event runs safely and that any incident of crime or disorder are dealt with swiftly and appropriately.

“Police officers will patrol the camp site alongside security staff to provide reassurance to campers and deter thieves.”

A spokeswoman for Oulton Park added: “We always welcome the presence of Cheshire police at the British Superbike rounds at Oulton Park.

“We work very closely with them and also our own security contractors to ensure that any incidents are kept to a minimum.

“Camping at the circuit has become more and more popular due to the great location of the site, right by the first corner.

“We look forward, with the assistance of the Cheshire police, to a trouble free weekend of great racing.”
