Objections to plans for homes for adults with learning disabilities quashed by planners

PROPOSALS to turn a yard into homes for adults with learning disabilities could come to fruition after outline planning permission was granted.

Chester West and Chester planning committee agreed to the proposal for 24 residential units at the former corporation yard site on Flag Lane North in Upton.

Now the developers, Wirral-based Salisbury Independent Living, have three years to submit a more detailed application.

The scheme was called in by Cllr Jill Houlbrook (Con) due to residents' concerns, highways issues, and the change from previously approved plans for residential housing.

But planning officers believed the accommodation would provide a facility needed by the wider community and would be an appropriate reuse of the "unsightly" yard.
