A PROFESSIONAL horticulturalist is preparing to open his garden to the public this weekend.
Phil Hunt, who works in the grounds at Chester Cathedral, is opening his garden at 90 St Peter’s Park in Northop on Saturday as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS).
Phil, a former lecturer at the Welsh College of Horticulture in Northop, has opened his garden for the last three years.
Proceeds from the admission charge go to the NGS, which supports mainly cancer charities, while money raised from the refreshments will support the Friends of Chester Cathedral.
Phil’s garden features a number of exotic and rare species of trees and ornamental plants – one of which is one of only five in the country.
It also has a unique garden den with a sedum roof, beamed ceilings, stained glass windows and an inglenook fireplace.
More than 3,700 gardens across England and Wales open on behalf of the NGS each year.
Phil’s garden will be open on Saturday from 2-5.30pm. Admission is £3, but children can go in free.
