ORGANISER Kerry Parr has wanted to throw a street party in Tarvin ever since she attended one for Charles and Diana’s wedding in 1981 as a child.
And on Friday she got the chance to do just that.
At Crossfields partygoers’ ages ranged from newborn babies to those in their 80s, uniting people who had lived years on the same street and not spoken to one another before.
One reveller said: “Today’s occasion is not just about the royal family, it’s about bringing a community together.”
And that it did, with face painting, egg and spoon races, husband and wife three-legged races and a ‘Match the baby photo to the adult’ competition.
But the real entertainment had to be professional morris dancer Bill James teaching six burly men and three enthusiastic women to do a morris stick dance. Weeks of practice paid off as they treated the street to a spectacular show.
