Tilston Primary pupils fundraise South African-style

PUPILS at Tilston Primary School did a little something different for Comic Relief this year.

After a visit from Mike Cleave, a representative of the Refilwe Community Project in South Africa, rather than raise more money for Red Nose Day, they voted to support Refilwe’s work instead.

Christian based organisation Refilwe serves the area around Lanseria, north of Johannesburg, providing childcare and sustainable community development initiatives.

Mr Cleave, a student from The University of Chester, had recently undertaken a placement at the school and given a presentation about the charity.

To raise funds, pupils held a non-uniform day to dress in the colours of the South African flag, and decorated biscuits to sell to during break time.

They raised approximately £100 and further fundraising is planned for later in the year.

Mr Cleave returned to the school to judge the best dressed pupils.
