TARVIN community centre is hoping to attract wider audiences with a packed line-up of acts over the next few months.
Community centre committee members said that the centre, on Meadow Close, has not been used to its full potential for a number of years, and finding funding for much needed refurbishments is proving difficult.
Performances from varied genres of musicians and alternative plays are just a few of the events lined up in the near future to appeal to a younger audience.
Kate Dalton, a trustee of the community centre committee, said the main objective is to revamp the centre to be somewhere the Tarvin community want to spend their time.
She said: “We are currently attracting just the over 50s age group but we’re working to appeal to people of all ages.
“We want to get this community centre up and running and to provide the locals with what they want.
“We have so much that we need to buy for the place to do that, but we are trying, and people know that.”
A production of ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, which opened at the centre last night, hopes to generate interest from local schools.
Mrs Dalton added: “I am very keen on getting more schools involved in projects at the centre.
“It is still early days but we want to put on things that will appeal to everyone.”
