Residents evacuated after Chester flat fire

A CITY centre apartment block had to be evacuated after a loft flat caught fire.

Firefighters from Chester and Ellesmere Port were called to the building on New Crane Street at 19.05pm on Friday and used specialist equipment to clear smoke fumes in the flat, which had been unoccupied.

All residents in the building were evacuated while crews tackled the blaze, and police and ambulance crews were also on standby. No other flats were damaged, and occupants were allowed to return to their homes.

The incident is not believed to be suspicious but an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
