Bishop Heber put on production of Bugsy Malone

BISHOP Heber High School has gone back in time to the 1920s for a ‘magical’ production of Bugsy Malone.

Staff and students worked over the past few months to recreate the New York City street scene adorned by Bugsy and his gang of custard gun-wielding mobsters.

The cast performed a series of dance routines and a mix of modern pop song structures and pre-rock and roll styles such as ragtime jazz and Bing Crosby-style crooner balladry.

Various departments in the school contributed to the production, including the art, music and drama departments.

The show ran for two nights this week, and will close tonight.

Head of performing arts Stephen Latham said: “We have been looking forward to presenting the show to a full packed audience on the three nights, plus an afternoon matinee to Year 7 students.

“Everyone has worked so hard and been dedicated to ensuring Bishop Heber yet again present a magical evening of entertainment.”
