Six pensioners in Frodsham are being praised for their volunteering over the past two decades

SIX Frodsham charity shop volunteers have raised £1.5m after 20 years of tireless fundraising.

Pensioners Anne Wales, Betty Thomas, Shelagh Rankin, Edith Oates, Joyce Shelley and Annette Edwards have worked at Frodsham’s Cancer Research Shop in Eddisbury Square since it was opened by Ken Dodd in 1991.

At an awards ceremony in Frodsham Community Centre, Cancer Research UK scientists revealed the ‘sensational six’ had raised £1,500,800.

The charismatic pensioners have lost husbands, mothers, brothers and friends to cancer are delighted to ‘have done their little bit to help’.

Shop manager Ruth Highcock said: “Considering how much we charge it is incredible that we have raised more than £1.5m.

“We are very well supported in Frodsham, receiving between 200 and 300 bags of donations every week, but we couldn’t do it without the hard work of the volunteers.”
