Computer scheme is big success

A NEW scheme aimed at villagers who want to improve their computer skills has proved to be a huge success.

Tattenhall based CLiC (Computer Learning in the Community) was set up to teach older members of the community how to use computers.

The project, based at the Barbour Institute, was primarily funded by Northern Marches Leader, whose contribution helped provide laptop and printing equipment for the scheme.

Cheshire West and Chester Council provided the sufficient funding to print and post the questionnaires to get the community’s views on whether or not there was a need for the programme.

CLiC Project Manager Hilary Scarratt, who spearheaded the course, said there has been a phenomenal response from elderly people wanting to improve their computer skills.

She said: “It’s going so well – it’s buzzing! There is lots of interest in the courses we run, and people are passing the beginners courses already.

“We have done an ‘Email for the curious’ course, ‘Internet for the curious’, and ‘Computer use for the curious’ - and there have been so many who have done so well. We are thinking of now doing a digital photography course and an Ebay course next, which I’m sure will have just as good a response.”
