PUPILS at St Clare’s Catholic Primary School in Lache have been busy sowing the seeds of the future.
The youngsters have been planting apple trees with help from Chester District Housing Trust (CDHT) and Lache Neighbourhood Management.
The community got together to buy the trees to help pupils learn about gardening and provided some much-needed greenery around the school.
Bob Webb and Lee Griffiths, from CDHT’s grounds maintenance team, were on hand to provide a lesson on how to plant the blossoming apple trees.
Headteacher Terry Daltrey, who supervised the project, said: “We are very grateful to everyone involved in sowing the seeds of an idea for a gardening club here at St Clare’s and for any help and assistance with plants, shrubs, trees and equipment.
“We hope that firm roots are put down, just like our pupils with their roots in the community, as we tend and nurture them while they grow and branch out.”
Sara Morley, neighbourhood services manager at CDHT, added: “It will be a couple of years before we see apples on the trees, but the blossom will look great every spring from the classrooms and playground.
“A great way for CDHT to help put something back into local communities.”
