Charity night for Claire House Hospice raises hundreds in Upton.

A NIGHT of fun, laughter and fundraising saw thousands of pounds raised for a charity that has transformed a family’s life.

At Upton Golf Club on Friday (March 4), guests battled for sought after prizes, including signed football shirts, precious jewellery and tickets to Chester Zoo, which were donated by local businesses.

Natalie and Peter McKeown, of Upton, were overwhelmed by the response to the night which raised more than £7,000 for Claire House Children's Hospice.

And along with the auction, crowds were treated to an evening of fun and frolics, with a drag queen dressed as a nun performing songs from the musical Sister Act.

The charity is close to the couple's hearts as it provides essential support for their 11-year-old daughter Cara, who suffers from Rett Syndrome.

Speaking about the event Peter explained that the number of donations from local businesses had been unbelievable.

“Everyone had a really good evening, it was really fantastic.

“Dixie Tucker the drag queen was so funny, he came out dressed as a nun and got the audience up singing,” said the 44-year-old.

“The responses we got from local businesses were unbelievable and the support from friends and family.

“It means such a lot, we just wanted to give something back, and in the next couple of weeks we are hoping to raise more and give a cheque for £8,000.”
