Cheshire police officers prepare for Three Peaks Challenge

A TEAM of police officers and police staff from Cheshire are planning to scale the summits of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales – in 24 hours.

The time limit for the trek across Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon includes 500 miles of driving between the three peaks.

Constable Paul Boneham, from Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit said, “It is going to be tough on those of us climbing and the people doing the driving, but we have put some training in and we are determined to do it.

“We have chosen May 11-12 because we think the weather should be about right and we have scheduled the climbs so that we avoid rush-hours on the journeys between the peaks.

“We are raising money for Cancer Research. We selected that organization as the beneficiary because nearly all the team members have relatives or friends who have suffered from various types of cancer.”

With Paul in the climbing team are Sergeants Mike Waters and Lance Ball and Constable Sarah Allibone, all Western Area Response Officers; Sergeant Chris Nightingale, from Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Team and Personal Safety Trainer Danny Phillips, who is based at Blacon Police Station. The drivers are Constable Paul Taylor and Police Community Support Officer Keith Bartlett, both from Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit.

Paul said: “Because we have organized the whole thing ourselves we have been looking for sponsorship from local companies. Handbridge Garage is providing a tank of fuel and some food. Trak (Global Solutions)Ltd is giving us equipment and money.

“We welcome help from companies and donations from anyone who wants to support us. We have sponsorship forms or people can donate on www.justgiving.com/ThreePeaks-Chepol.
