THE wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be celebrated in style across Chester.
With five street parties going on in and around the city, it is sure to be a day to remember.
Cheshire West and Chester Council have confirmed that five road closure orders have been approved for events in Upton, Tarvin, Frodsham, Ellesmere Port and Willaston on April 29.
The eight-week deadline for applications for road closures passed on Monday.
The normal fee to apply for a road closure order is £149 but this has been waived for royal wedding parties and for celebrations to commemorate the Queen’s diamond jubilee in June 2012.
However, party organisers are expected to have £10m public liability insurance in place, with an average cost of £50.
Chris Gittins of dedicated street party website Streets Alive said this requirement may have put some people off.
He added: “Many councils successfully do not require insurance for this as the costs are at least a dampener, or are very difficult in some communities.
“Nationally, however, only 10 local authorities and eight London boroughs do not require insurance.”
Even though the deadline for road closure applications has passed, this doesn’t mean that you can’t get out the bunting and hold a ‘street meet’ or get-together on your village green.
