Alley gates installed at the rear of roads in Lache

ALLEY gates have been installed at the rear of Hazel Road, Downsfield Road and Poplar Road in Lache.

They were installed following requests from residents to help reduce levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in their area.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Community Safety Wardens, alongside local councillors, completed door to door consultations with local people to develop an understanding of the issues they faced.

Cheshire Police increased patrols in the area and partners have worked alongside local residents to identify appropriate ways of reducing the reported problems.

The continued joint partnership highlighted the need for a Gating Order and residents were consulted with the majority of them in favour of the scheme.

The successful Gating Order application means that the alleyways will be restricted on a 24/7 basis with lockable gates.

Overleigh Councillor Richard Short said: “The approach taken demonstrates an example of what can be achieved when the council works with local residents.

“Gating Orders have proven to be successful in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour and create a feeling of safety within our communities.

“It is hoped that these measures will eradicate problems experienced by the residents of Hazel Road, Downsfield Road and Poplar Road.”
