Mystery surrounds death of Chester man who fell from the City Walls
MYSTERY surrounds the death of a 38-year-old man who fell about 60ft from the City Walls on to the canal towpath.
Thomas Corry of Plas Dinas flats in Blacon was discovered at 1.05am on Thursday, February 10.
He plunged to his death from the City Walls off Northgate Street and although it’s unclear how he fell, police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Flowers and written tributes have been left on the towpath near to where Mr Corry was found.
One said: “To my Tomcat, with all my love always, from your Possum xxx.”
Part of a poem written by ‘your good friend Irene’, said: “I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard.
“I felt the answer in my heart, though he spoke not a word. I didn’t ask for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn’t mind).
“I asked for priceless treasures rare of a more lasting kind. A prayer that he’d be near to you at the start of each new day.”
Cheshire Police are asking anyone who saw Mr Corry prior to his death or witnessed him fall to contact them on 0845 458 0000.
A spokeswoman added: “There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
An inquest into Mr Corry’s death was opened on Monday and a coroner’s report is being prepared.
Back in May 2002, 23-year-old David Spencer from Broughton died after plunging 60ft from the walls between Frodsham Street and Northgate Street, close to where Mr Corry was discovered.
