Helsby Beavers celebrate their 15th anniversary

BEAVERS in Helsby enjoyed a celebration cake and party games at a birthday bash to mark their colony’s 15th anniversary.

The children also received a unique memento of the occasion, a specially designed badge.

Beavers Charlie Potts, eight, and seven-year-olds Milly Adamson and Sophie Reid, were joint winners of a competition to design a birthday badge – which depicts a happy beaver holding a balloon and birthday cake – for their uniforms.

The village Beaver colony for six to eight-year-olds is attached to 1st Helsby Scouts – one of the oldest Scout groups in the world – and has gone from strength to strength since it was started by Alison Ravenscroft and Judith Potts.

Judith, who is still a volunteer leader, said: “It’s one of the most popular Beaver colonies in the North West Cheshire District. There are 27 members and we have a waiting list of more than 30 local boys and girls eager to join.

“A really fantastic birthday present for us would be for more leaders to join us so we could open another Beaver colony to get more children into Scouting.”

Beavers meets at 1st Helsby Scouts HQ in Lower Robin Hood Lane on Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in becoming a leader can contact Judith via the group’s website at www.1sthelsbyscouts.org.uk or call in at the weekly meetings.
