A STUDENT from Chester hopes to answer the call of the wild.
Paul Jarvis, 23, a counselling skills and psychology student at the University of Chester, is off to the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa to take part in a conservation project as part of his work placement.
He braved a stampede of shoppers at Tesco in Frodsham Street, Chester as he packed bags to raise the money for the trip.
Paul, of Victoria Road, said: “I have to go for six weeks.
“I have always wanted to work with animals, so it’s a dream come true for me.
“I’ll be doing things like tracking white rhinos, carrying out inventories, cleaning brushland and taking part in anti-poaching patrols.
“But the most important aspect is that I will be dealing with all sorts of people from different cultures, which will really stand me in good stead for my career in counselling after I have left university.”
Paul, a carer with D&M Care Agency, needs to raise £3,000 to fund the trip and he has already gathered donations from family, friends and his employer to the tune of £1,800.
