Chester’s College of Law launches unique law degree

THE College of Law in Chester is to offer an undergraduate degree course for the first time.

The college is launching a unique two-year law degree to focus on boosting students’ employment prospects and professional legal skills.

The course, being run at the Christleton campus from September 2012, will be the first of its kind, grounded on rigorous practice-based learning designed to prepare students for the modern world of law.

It will differ from many traditional law degrees as it will be targeted specifically at students, who already know that they want a career in the legal profession or other business areas requiring legal skills.

In contrast to traditional degrees, the course will have at its heart the teaching of professional skills that are essential when starting a legal career, including analysis, problem solving, drafting and research.

Employability is also a key feature in the design of the course, with workshops to help students understand the career opportunities inherent in the fast-changing legal services market, both in the UK and globally.
