Seventeen people - including one woman - fined for urinating in Chester streets

SEVENTEEN people – including one woman – have been fined by Chester Magistrates Court for urinating in the city centre after being caught on CCTV.

The ongoing operation involves the Council’s Trading Standards, police and CCTV. The cases involve people aged between 19 and 40.

They involve locations across the city centre including the wooden Rows, public telephone kiosks and on the doorsteps of businesses and private addresses.

Councillor Lynn Riley, executive member for community and environment, said: “We are determined to stop this problem across the city centre which can have a detrimental effect on residents, visitors and shop owners.

“We are sending out the clear message that urinating in public will not be tolerated.”

Trading Standards say they have a further 30 investigations which may result in court cases.

Councillor Riley added: “People need to know that the footage from CCTV cameras is very clear – even in the dark – and if you have committed this offence you run the risk of the embarrassment of being filmed and having a criminal record.”
