Fresh supermarket plan to include much-needed car park for Tarvin
FRESH plans have been unveiled for a supermarket in Tarvin which would provide the village with a much-needed car park.
The proposal, which includes 28 parking spaces, would see a pedestrian and cycle path link the convenience store to High Street, while cars would enter the store from the A54.
As part of the plan, submitted by Osborne And Co, 63 High Street – offices which have been vacant since 2006 – would be converted into three homes.
The proposal comes after a similar plan, which included a supermarket, housing, offices and a restaurant, was given the go-ahead in January last year after an appeal.
However, developers say the approved scheme was ‘deficient’ in a number of areas and have now come back with a smaller and more appropriate plan.
The hope is that the store will meet local needs and stop villagers spending all their money in Chester city centre.
The planning application added: “It is well documented that Tarvin currently has a deficit of publicly available car parking and that this discourages people from shopping in the village.”
Residents and businesses were sent consultation letters about the fresh plans earlier this week.
Rebecca Phoenix, who is a therapist at Serenity beauty salon, said: “We need a car park. I don’t think cars should be allowed to park on both sides of the road.
“Two cars can’t always get through at the same time, it’s just a nightmare.
“We have clients who are coming in late because they can’t find a space.
“People dump their cars anywhere.”
Carole Oldknow, who runs the dress shop Imagination, added: “We need a village car park and we need it as soon as possible.”
Tarvin Parish Council is urging people not to park their cars in the village and then catch the bus into Chester.
