Cheshire Police issue warning to residents after sneak-in burglaries in Blacon

POLICE are warning people to lock their doors after a spate of sneak-in burglaries.

Two incidents have been reported in Blacon at the weekend as well as an attempt at a ‘hook and cane’ burglary.

The two sneak-in burglaries were carried out while people were in their homes.

The first was in Saughall Road between 9.30pm and 10.20pm on Sunday, January 30 with another in nearby Lynwood Road between 1am and 7.10am the next day.

Detective constable Nick Henderson said: “Burglars who specialise in this type of crime only need a few seconds to try a door, find it is unlocked, walk into a kitchen or hallway and take whatever is available.

“In both of these cases the criminal took a computer and a handbag with cash. A wrist watch was also taken from one of the houses.”

The attempted hook and cane burglary was at Mostyn Place at 9.30pm on Saturday January 29.

The burglar pushed a pole through a cat flap and tried to pull some drawers with a handbag on top towards the door but was disturbed by the woman who lived there.

DC Henderson added: “Locking your doors is the most basic precaution to protect your home, so whether you’re going out or staying in, you need to turn the key.

“Sneak-in burglars will move along a street, dodging in and out of driveways and gardens, trying doors until they find one which is unlocked.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious near these addresses or from anyone who has any other information to offer about these incidents.”

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
