Chester student needs help to fund £3,000 Uganda mission
GAP year student Rachel Ellis is appealing for sponsors so she can go on a humanitarian visit to Uganda.
Rachel, 19, of Hamilton Street, Hoole, wants to work with children and help on a project in the Kampala region, but she needs £3,000 to fund the trip.
Rachel said: “All Saints Church in Hoole has been very generous and has donated £750.
“The trip is being organised with Christian charity Tearfund, which sends teams out to work with women’s groups and children, teaching crafts and sports activities.”
Tearfund works to improve basic services, fight disease and enable those in under-developed countries to find a way out of poverty.
Rachel hopes to go to university in September to study international development before going on to work in international aid.
“It’s something that is really important to me,” she added.
“If I can raise enough money it will give me a chance to start making a real difference.”
