Commuter parking still causing problems for residents in Chester cul-de-sac

FURTHER restrictions are set to be introduced to deal with all-day commuter parking on the fringe of the city centre.

The long-running problem continues to plague Westminster Avenue near the Overleigh roundabout.

The city is a short walk across the Grosvenor Bridge from the cul-de-sac.

No waiting restrictions have been brought in on part of the road but traffic engineers say parking continues to cause difficulties for drivers trying to turn.

As a result they are using the accesses to residents’ driveways.

They proposed the existing restrictions should be extended.

The measure is backed by Overleigh councillors Richard Short (Con) and Arthur Harada (Con) and there have been no objections from the police.

Following public consultation, however, an objector told Cheshire West and Chester Council he believed the restriction would be excessive.

A report reveals that at a meeting with Cllr Short and a local resident, area highways manager Kieran Collins agreed the restriction would allow space for cars to turn without causing problems for occupiers on the road who had previously experienced damage to their property.

Highways portfolio holder Cllr Lynn Riley (Con, Weaver) agreed the restriction should be implemented.
