FRODSHAM Street’s toilet facilities in Chester are to receive a major refurbishment designed to substantially improve facilities for disabled visitors to the city centre.
While the work is carried out the toilets will be temporarily closed from Monday, January 17 to Saturday, April 2.
The work will involve the creation of a new ‘Changing places’ toilet – with facilities including a much larger than standard toilet with ceiling track hoist, adjustable height, changing bed and shower. This will allow people with disabilities to enjoy longer periods of time in the city centre.
Local member, Councillor Lynn Riley, said: “These works are much-needed to bring the facilities up to the standard you would expect in a city such as Chester.
“Some people with disabilities cannot use standard public toilets. ‘Changing places’ toilets are different as they include extra features and much more space.
“We apologise for the closure however I am sure that the refurbishment will be welcomed by both residents and visitors alike.”
Changing Places is a national campaign backed by a number of organisations designed to provide disabled facilities in towns and city centres.
This is the first of its kind in Cheshire West and Chester. For more information on the campaign please visit www.changing-places.org
While the work is being carried out, the nearest public toilets will be situated inside Tesco in Frodsham Square, Frodsham Street or in Princess Street next to the bus station.
