Tarvin Elvis Cafe raises £1,000 for Children in Need following karaoke-style event on Saturday

CROONERS sang their favourite Elvis numbers live on the radio in aid of BBC’s Children in Need appeal.

The event was part of a fundraising extravaganza which took place on Saturday (November 20) at The Elvis Café, Kelsall Road, Tarvin Fisheries, organised by owner Marge Bailey, and raised £1,000 for the good cause.

The cafe, which is a shrine to the King, hosted ‘DJ Dave’ who presents an Elvis show twice a week on an internet-based radio station and has become a firm friend of the cafe after visiting 12 months ago.

For 24 hours the station broadcast live from the cafe and customers were able to take part in a karaoke-style challenge by singing Elvis hits on the show after making a donation.

Marge, a massive Elvis fan, said staff and some of the cafe’s customers dressed up in Elvis-themed costumes with other fundraising activities including a raffle and tombola.

Marge, 65, said: “I’ve always supported Children in Need in my own way but I’ve never held an event for it before.”

She added: “We charged people for singing Elvis on the radio and everyone had a great time and the staff want me to do it every week now!”

She added: “We were hoping to raise £500 but managed to raise an impressive £1,000. We are extremely grateful for everyone who supported the event and for all the kind donations.
