Drunk who ignored police warnings given conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £85

A NUISANCE drunk who ignored warnings from police to leave the city centre was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £85.

Magistrates sentenced Eifon Wyn Jones, 52, of Beechwood Road, Saltney, for being ‘drunk and generally a nuisance’ after he pleaded guilty to ignoring a police direction to leave an area of Chester on Thursday, October 21, when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday.

Sue Gibson, prosecuting, said: “An officer was called to reports of a male acting aggressively stood outside the Slug and Lettuce public house and was advised to go home because he was unlikely to be served any more alcohol.

“The officer was then called to Pizza Express on St John Street, where the defendant was inside the premises arguing with staff.

“At about 11.15pm he was told to leave the area.

“He accepted the notice and was told to walk down St John street towards Pepper Street.

“At about 11.25pm CCTV operators saw the defendant still stood on Bridge Street.

“The officer went to the location and arrested the defendant for failing to comply with the notice.”

Adrian Evans, defending, said: “The defendant was very drunk and incapable of complying with directions from officers at the scene.”
