A FORMER church Rose Queen has raised more than £1,000 for her former school.
Alisha Moody, who retired as Rose Queen of St Thomas of Canterbury Church last summer raised £1,100 for Dorin Park School in Upton.
She held a series of sponsored events and fund raising sales to raise the money.
Alisha attended Dorin Park before moving to Bishops Bluecoat CE High School.
Alisha presented a cheque to Dorin Park headteacher Annie Hinchlifee at a recent mass at the church.
Mrs Hinchcliffe said: “We are very proud of the work that Alisha has done and we are extremely grateful for the gift.”
Fr Peter Walsh, of St Thomas’ Church, added: “Each year our Rose Queen chooses a charity to support. We were delighted that Alisha choose Dorin Park for her charity and her work through the year has helped her to grow in confidence and self-esteem.”
The school will use the money for various projects in the near future. The new Rose Queen, Vicky McBriar, has chosen the British Heart Foundation for the 2011 young people’s charity at the church.
