FOOTBALLERS from Newton Primary School have won the Chester Schools Football Tournament on home turf.
The youngsters, from Year 5 and Year 6, took on Overleigh St Mary’s in the final, which ended with a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.
Newton won the final 4-2 on penalties, with goalkeeper Stuart Moscrop saving three goal attempts. This was a reverse of last year’s final which Overleigh won. The tournament was held at the Kingsway West school earlier this month with 28 schools from across Chester and West Cheshire taking part.
Students from Queen’s Park High and Upton High schools helped referee the games.
