Residents raise concern over issues in Newtown community

RESIDENTS of Newtown highlighted concerns regarding the neighbourhood they live in at a Cheshire West and Chester Community Forum meeting.

As a result, Cheshire police led a multi-agency Ward Walk in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council; Chester and District Housing Trust and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The walk allowed agencies to highlight environmental improvements in the area that needed to be addressed and provided an opportunity to engage with local people with a view of identifying their experiences of living in that particular area.

Following the Ward Walk partners agreed to host a Safer, Stronger Event that coincided with a visit from the Home Secretary Teresa May.

The Safer, Stronger Event followed two distinct parts a consultation phase that involved door to door visits and a Cleaner, Greener phase that included a number of activities including: removal of fly-tipping; painting railings; re-painted zebra crossing; replaced signage; enforcement of parking.

Local agencies are now focussed on working towards responding to issues highlighted by residents during the consultation. The majority of residents are happy living in the area but concerns included parking issues; fly-tipping in the alleys; noise and disorder in the local park.
