Cheshire mental health trust staff on partnership visit to south east Africa

STAFF from a local mental health trust have returned from a partnership visit to Kisiizi Hospital in south east Africa.

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) secured a grant from the International Health Links Funding Scheme which enabled three members of staff to visit the remote, 235-bed hospital, with one mental health ward, in Uganda.

CWP director of nursing and patient partnership, Avril Devaney, led the visit. She said: “The aim of the visit was to establish a mental health link with the hospital and both I and colleagues were warmly welcomed.

“Whilst we were there we worked with the mental health team to identify how best we can work together to help develop the hospital’s mental health services.

“We have agreed key areas for partnership working including psychological therapies and public health information.

“We are hoping staff from Kisiizi will visit CWP later this year.”
